To minimize the risk of introducing this deadly parasite into the UK, it’s crucial that this treatment is administered correctly.

3. Administering Tapeworm Treatment

For dogs traveling to the UK from the EU (excluding specific countries such as Southern Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland, Norway, or Malta), tapeworm treatment is mandatory. It should be administered by a vet not less than 24 hours (1 day) and no more than 120 hours (5 days) before your dog’s scheduled arrival in the UK. 4. Recording Tapeworm Treatment Details

Once your dog has received the necessary tapeworm treatment, it’s essential that this information is accurately recorded on your Animal Health Certificate. The recording location varies depending on the language of your AHC, but for French or Spanish AHCs, it must be noted in the table at the bottom of page 4. The vet administering the treatment will record your pet’s microchip information, the product used, the date and time of administration, and their name, stamp, and signature.

5. Accepted Tapeworm Treatment

The tapeworm treatment must contain an ingredient called praziquantel to be considered valid for returning to the UK. There are several approved products that meet this requirement, ensuring the health and safety of your pet during re-entry.
